San Antonio
Question
Should I walk away from a new house purchase?
I am buying a home in San Antonio for about 200k. The foundation was poured and the house is about 40% complete. I hired an inspection company and he found about 3 pages of code violations - and recommends I walk away from the deal. The company insists they will fix the problems, but I'm a bit afraid. I'm paying cash, and I saved for a long time to get that amount of money - and I don't want to waste it. I have only put down a $500 dollar deposit. This is the just the first of 4 inspections. Should I walk away? What should be my strategy in dealing with the builder? Can this affect my credit?

Don't walk away. (If you do walk away, walk away with your $500.) They will have the same problem no matter who they try to sell the house to. If the deal makes sence, get the house. Work on the deal. The builder is probably out of cash. Don't pay him in advance for some work which he may or may not do. Somebody is going to end up with the house and it might as well be you. You might be his only hope. Financing may not be available. He has no way to sell it. You may be his only hope. Get some expert advice on this.
