Question
Single girl on unemployment going to school, how do i get help paying my rent?
My boyfriend is moving out and my rent alone is $75 more than unemployment gives me. I don't have kids, so it seems like it's harder to get any kind of assistance with rent. I already have federal and state grants for school, but I'm skeptical of taking out student loans unless it's absolutely necessary. Just need help with the rent, it's gonna drown me. My rent is normal for my area, $875. It's a one bedroom, so I can't exactly get a roommate. I'm not going to be able to find anything lower, or move because of my lease. Please help!!

So you might have to drop school for a while or go to night school while you GET A JOB to help house yourself then go back to school full time. I have to totally agree how much more do you want from the broken system?

why should you get "help"? You are already getting grants for school. God, how much more do you demand? Yes, student loans to pay for school is needed, just like millions of other kids and parents. Yes, you can get a roommate, even with a one bedroom. Plus you could live on campus for A LOT less then what you are paying for rent. You can't afford this place, so move and stop expecting that you should get a free ride. PS, it's summer, get a job or 2nd or even a 3rd job. My daughter is working 3 jobs this summer, 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a week to pay for next years college.

And how exactly are you getting unemployment and going to school? In most states, unemployment is reserved for people actually looking for work. It's difficult to qualify for training exceptions.

I agree with the first comment. You are already getting a lot of help from the government and shouldn't expect more. You shouldn't be able to go to school and collect unemployment at the same time to begin with. If you need more money, then you just need another part time job anywhere, even fast food. Be thankful that you qualify for school funding. I'm 22 work full time, take almost full time classes and support myself. I make decent money so I'm not complaining, but because of that I don't get any help at all from anyone and I have hardly no extra cash every month; I'm fine with that.
