I missed a week filing for unemployment benefits in New York State. How will this effect me? I tried calling the unemployment hotline, but was unable to speak with a live representative. I also could not find this in the New York Department of Labor's frequently asked questions.

Call or go online and certify. If you are only a week late, just do what you were supposed to do last week. Otherwise, you have to go to the UE office to straighten this out.

you will lose that week unless you have a very good reason as to why you didn't take 30 seconds to file ur claim on line....forgetting about it would not be a good answer......being ill in the hospital would be a good answer....

Just file the missing claim ASAP. You have 2 weeks to get your claim in, after which you lose the week's benefits. If you're just a day or so late, or even a week late, don't sweat it.
