Question
accounting worries. is there really as many oppertonities for accouting majors as everyone reports.?
hey I'm currently in college and wish to someday obtain a CPA (certified public accountant) I really enjoy accounting and business has always been my passion. My only problem is that I feel as if the market is getting flooded with people. I want a career in which I know there will be jobs, without the threat of outsourcing. involves business and math, but also has good potential and wont get over flooded. I'm a sophomore in college so if anyone can give me advice that would be great. also if there'ss any accounting grads out there please let me know if your happy with your degree.

Acct. degree from U of Virginia; MBA from U of Texas; CPA for the fed. When you graduate, be prepare to staple a stack of papers as an entry-level accountant (part of being a rookie). Don't expect you will be hitting on I/S and B/S right away. If you want to be an accountant then I recommend pursuing CPA, CMA, or CIA. Not necessarily for other business fields. It's up to you though. I am happy with my career (it wasn't easy). One more thing, you gotta have 150 semester hours of education to get a CPA license in most states (check with your state's board). Good Luck!

I think you'll be safe finding an accounting job. I've heard the number of accounting jobs is going to triple. From what I understand, there'll be lots of growth in internal audit, but your accounting background and experience can always lead to a successful career in finance.

There's no possibility of there being a market glut of accountants. You might be surrounded by accounting majors now, but consider this: most will either drop out, change majors, not even be good at it, or not want to be an accountant. That just leaves you and me, kid, making all the money!

www ... Jobs for CPAs are still in high demand regardless of this economy. In fact, the market for ethical, intelligent, and hardworking CPAs is growing because the accounting industry has come under scrutiny. If you enjoy accounting and business - stick with it. If you do end up not liking it later - you can always change careers. As a sophomore in college, you still have plenty of time to figure it out!! :) hope this helps! good luck!
