I'm starting a basketball league and need a tax ID, do I need to form an LLC first?
On the SS-4 application that gets you a tax ID it ask " Is this application for a limited liability company (LLC) or a foreign equivalent?" Do I need to become an LLC first?

Yes, you need to form an LLC to obtain a tax id. If you are just running as a sole propietor then you can just use your personal tax id.
