This is a long-term project that has to be done in person. Visit all local businesses and explain the benefits of the calendar to them. If they are skeptical or short of cash, you might have to sell them a 3 year package where the first year is free. So they can see the results. You have to be confident that your calendar will be successful and lead to increased business for your sponsors.

The game is about "Value". How much value your calender will offer them will entails their interest in sponsoring it. Accordingly, you need to think if you were in their shoes "Why shall we sponsor this calender and not sponsoring something else?" As much rationalism used in answering this question, as much your debate will be convincing to them.

You need to be a good salesman by clearly and elegantly making them aware the benefits they will receive from sponsoring and advertising your calendar. If you are not goood at the skill of persuasion then you may want to consider hiring a copywriter to write up a proposal. Copywriters are skilled in the art of getting people to take a desired action. Hiring a GOOD copywriter is not cheap, so you would really need to weigh the pros and cons of doing so, and decide if the project would justify the expense keeping in mind that nothing is guaranteed. If the company you have in mind doesn't bite, you can take your proposal to another company. If that becomes the case, you will want to advertise your proposal just as you would the product itself. I recommend you use social media sites like Adwido to find prospective sponsors.
