Question
Medical and health insurance?
ok! medicare will cover my gastric surgery 80%, I'm trying to get medicaid to cover the 20%, but they now say i need a 1 year unsuccessful weightloss history, now i have been going to my pcp since 12/2007 regarding my weight, all throughout 2008 i came to my pcp and tried diet pills, 1200 calorie diets, excercise etc. any way i had no success in losing the weight, we documented this info on my progress notes, i was also told before that i need a six month to 1 year of unsuccessful w.l. now there saying 1 year not 6 months, anyway they denied me now i'm filing for an appeal, can anyone link me or give any info. of how long medicade requires documentation of unsuccessful weightloss in michigan. so if i file this appeal do you think i could have a good chance of getting approved for gastric bypass surgery

medicaid tends to not pay for this at all. Have you ever tried appealing against the IRS? Government health care is about the same.

Specific details on Medicaid coverage e.g. how long before a procedure will be approved is based on guidelines set up by your state's department of social services. You did the proper thing by appealing. Would however suggest asking your MD to prepare a summary of what he/she recommends and take that to the area Medicaid office. Government run health plans control costs by paying providers a low amount and also by limited which treatments will be approved and when. Good luck
