Erie
Question
Business liability insurance?
Are there any agencies out there that will actually give out liability insurance for landscaping to 18 yr olds looking to get it. Everybody keeps saying get insurance but yet I've talked to state farm and they won't give it to me and I just talked to Erie and they don't know if they can give it to me How much extra will it cost to add snowplowing to it because snow removal is a huge part of our business

The issue is not your age. The majority of companies require that you have ownership or equivalent managerial or supervisory experience in a similar industry of at least 3 years. If you have owned a company for at least 3 years they also require that you have had continuous insurance and a good loss history (i.e. no claims). In your case I would suggest that you contact Tapco Underwriters if they are in your area--they specialize in writing policies for contractors that are new in business, have a poor loss history or otherwise don't qualify for insurance through other companies. Tapco has a very good program that will cost you under $750 (minimum premium for a $1,000,000 limit) if you have no employees and only do landscaping. If you call Tapco at 1-800-552-6326, they will refer you to a local agent that can help you. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Liability coverage for an 18 year old may be difficult to find but it is available. Call a local agent that works in the business market and with multiple companies to see what may be available in your area. You will need to get this from a company that specializes in business liability.

Yes, there are. BUT, for a brand new company, you'll be with Surplus Lines. You won't get any standard company to write a landscaping business, without three years of insurance history. That means, Erie, State Farm, Allstate, Nationwide, Travelers, Zurich, none of them will do it. You need to go to a local, independent agent, who can quote this out surplus lines. Someone like Scottsdale would LOVE to write this - but, if you're doing no tree trimming, only mowing, and no plowing in the winter, it's going to run you around $1500 a year, for a two guy shop, and receipts under $50,000. You can find an independent agent near you, at www.iiaa.org.

Yes you will be able to get liability for a landscaping business, however you'll be better off contacting several insurance brokers in your area as opposed to dealing with one company. Insuring a new landscaping business is not overly difficult, insuring a landscaping business also doing snow removal is going to be difficult. Snow removal is a very high risk business since plows damage property all the time covered by snow, therefore you're going to have to find a commercial broker to find something for you.
