Question
How much do you charge a someone for creating a web site for their business?
I took a web design class this year in school and my therapist asked me if I would create her a web site for her therapy business and such. This will be my first 'job' so I don't know much about what to charge, where to host and the like. ○ How much would I charge her for the service? ○ From which host should I purchase my domain? ○ Do you have any other pointers for me? Thanks. :)

What you charge really is dependent on the job. When I started out I did a few simple jobs for free to build up more portfolio. Once I had 3 or 4 sites in my portfolio I felt comfortable enough to start charging for my work. I also wrote up a contract with my customers. Within the contract it specified the details of the job, and what is expected as the end result. It also required them to list 3 business referrals in lieu of payment. The business referrals were great because it allowed me to find my next client(s) which ultimately got me paid.

You should charge $15-30/hour, depending how fast and professional the new design would be. You can host the website on your own server that's $4-10 per month at www ... and domain $4-8 at www ... But I would strongly advice you to create websites based on www ... since 1) blog engine is free 2) there are millions of free professional designs for wordpress 3) it's easy for clients to add new information to a website themselves 4) businsses will still need your skills to setup the website/blog Good luck! when I first started, I would charge about $200 for a basic informational site. Now, 3 years later I charge $475 I include basic search engine optimization at that price.
