Who knows about architectural salvage?

I'm interested in starting my own business in this field. While disassembly, demolition, and actual salvaging of pieces are nothing new to me, the business operation leaves me with questions. How do I secure salvage rights and what kind of permits do I need other than a regular business license to operate? How do I find out who or what entity can grant or sell salvage rights? Any one with experience or can point me towards some references in this field?
