Why isn't my business growing?
I have a small eco-friendly mobile car wash and I can't understand why it's not growing like I thought. We won an award, got an interview on CNN, have a website, mail over 500 fliers out a month, do telemarketing & have ads posted in several places but we don't really get that much of a response. I thought after the press releases and CNN interview we'd have dozens of call but so far only one. What am I doing wrong? Our prices are competitive (we had a professional business plan and breakeven established) and we are punctual, customer service oriented and involved in the community. What am I doing wrong?

It could be the economy. When people are having trouble paying their bills, the environment is the last thing they care about. Car washes is usually one of the first thing to go. I can speak about it personally. I would get one every month or so, Now I can't remember the last time. People with disposable income and good neighborhoods should be your target. Neighborhoods with a hippie,eclectic vibe should be your target to. See if there is any local directory that lists eco-minded business like yours. Or I know of one eco car wash near where I live that latched onto a mall. Maybe you can ask a local health food store if you can have a partnership with them (if they have room.) Good luck.

We are in a recession - It is much cheaper to wash your car yourself than to pay someone else to do it - Good luck, but it might get worse before it gets better.

Hi you need to review about which of your adverts are working. The flyiers may be the least effective. You need to post your ads where your potential audience will be. Also drive around with your marked van on a regular basis. You should also contact garages etc in order to tender for work there. Put the link to the CNN interview on your web site. i know this isn't a technical answer, but, while an eco-friendly car wash sounds like a neat idea, sending out a ton paper fliers is pretty contradictory. I'd question the ethics based on something seemingly simple as that. Can you afford a local commercial? Or regular radio plug? Email can get misconstrued as spam, so i wouldn't do that. And phone calls can seem annoying at times. Make sure your family and friends use your service and make sure they promote how awesome an idea it is by word of mouth.
