Advertising on google?

When i set up my webmaster on google a few days later a got a call to say it was going to cost £299 to put my site on there is this for the adwords? As he said indexing is on now but it wont be listed till the payment clears. Wats the difference between the two and should i have been charged to do this thanks

Adwords does cost money but you don't have to do it. Adwords is another way to advertise your business. If you are not sure about it then don't do it. If you have more questions then call the google help desk.

well it depends what u mean? do u mean the list of adverts because yeah that sounds right if u want to get really good placements with ur adverts but its free to get on googles general search listings ps kelly is a spambot and now i dunno if the question is aswell

You set up your webmaster on Google? I'm guessing you mean set up your website on google, but you should clarify. Indexing is free and if you have an inbound link Google may index you on it's own. Being indexed into Google and appearing when your customers are searching for what you sell are two very different things. If you'd like your business to appear on a high traffic keyword you will have to pay for either Google Adwords or Search Engine Optimization.
