ask a lawyer
What basic questions should I ask my lawyer before signing a contract to purchase a home?
Question
My dad lost $4700 from breach of a business contract and the contract got lost. What can he do?
Hello all, my dad has a very new business doing consulting. Back in February a client contacted him and they agreed on a 20 day overseas business trip with assignments needing to be done and he would get paid $4700. My dad and him agreed to a verbal contract and signed a short written contract. By some freak accident, it got lost (my dads one of those guys that almost never loses anything). When he asked to be paid, the other guy's lawyer asked to the contract and my dad was unable to produce it. My dad successfully completed the trip and finished all of his tasks. He was supposed to get paid by April but the other guy is playing dumb, refusing to pay anything. We dont have anything for physical proof, so legal options are very limited. I feel terrible for my dad. Huge blow for his new business. Any options left?

The absolute only thing for him to do is contact a lawyer. The other guy is hoping he doesn't have the money to do it and he'll just roll away, look into legal aid, or whatever but absolutely positively if he wants to be paid, he's going to need a lawyer. Nothing will happen without one and the lawyer is not going to do anything to mediate the decision in your dad's favor.

he needs to see a lawyer, or get legal aid, or go thru the small claim court at the end of day, ur dad needs to show written proof that he did business for his former client, e.g., persons contact overseas, results of meetings, meeting notes, etc.
