Question
Can you get the federal energy tax credit while renting your primary home?
My wife and I are on extended vacation and renting our primary home until we return. We are going to replace the heat pump with an energy star model (SEER 15). Can we get the non business energy property federal tax credit (up to $1500) on a qualified new unit? We are renting (and depreciating the property) but this is our only home and we are going to live in it when we return. While on vacation we have a rented a Personal Mail Box for our official address where we pay taxes and vote which is not the same address of course as our rented home
