The trade mark registration system is a country based system so you have to register a trade mark in each country where you want to use the trade mark. However, with an online business, most proprietors will only register in the country in which their business is physically located. Just because you are able to get a domain name or a name on a Yahoo page, it does not mean that it can be registered as a trade mark - the US Patents and Trade Marks Office conduct a review to determine if there are any blockages to registration such as a pre-existing trade mark that is the same or similar to your proposed mark. You can find more information at the USPO website - www.uspto.gov

Just selecting a name for a company does not automatically trademark it. You must handle that yourself. It also does not make it world wide.
