Need some advice on a duplex im renting thats been foreclosed!?!?

The duplex is/was owned by a friend of my boyfriends. We are not on a lease, just renting month to month and have only lived here for about a month. Last Friday a man and a woman came over and introduced themselves as the new owners. They said we didnt have to move, but i was shocked that we knew nothing of this. I knew my bfs friends was behind on the mortgage but he didnt even know he had lost it when we called to ask about it, he said he had filed bankruptcy and it was auctioned off. How long does it take to be foreclosed? How do i find out who is the actual owner, I want to be 100% sure who the owner is before i pay anyone rent. I live in WA state and checked online on the treasurer assessor and it still shows our friend as the owner. I called they said it could take a while to update. I know very little about this and want to be informed to protect myself.
