First you should ask - what is it I have-- then what is it I need.. This also depends on how much money you have - what your lifestyle is, and what you intend to use your appartment for. Eg. if you are entertaining friends then you may need a dish set, but if you are just there with yourself 1 plate, cup or bowl ect.. will suffice. If you have a long term lease furniture may make sense, just bear in mind if you plan on moving again then you will need to move all this stuff with you. You really don't need anything but you will need to adapt your lifestyle. I've been living and over time managed to accumulate enough things to keep me comfortable, I have a hard time finding things to buy.. but there are so many. If you have a steady income then you could buy things like a electric kettle for making tea. Here is my starting out list: Toilet paper (unless you have a bidet) toiletries (if you plan on maintaining yourself or being social) something to dry yourself off with (eg. towel) a microwavable dish (can be used as a cup, or a food container) a wok (can be used to fry or boil) a knife... alas things I have now I appreciate: a few desks, a handful of chairs, a dual set fold out coach, a tv stand, a book case, a fold out chair/bed, .... ****CAN OPENER dish set and extra dishes pots and pans extra mini fridge bookshelf shelving but I'm not yet in a permanent dwelling I'm still in student mode ----- chances are I may be transitioning to non student mode leading up to the fall... I'm looking for a small house to rent. It all depends what you do to keep yourself occupied. I love comfortable beds and couches... but I also got my weight set... it all depends how you plan on using it.

You will need food and for sure furniture. Just go to the market and buy everything on your list and take it home. As time passes you will think of more things and you can buy them when they are needed.
