Question

Primerica taking $25 out of my account every month...even though I declined job offer?

A friend of mine tried to get me to work for this company called Primerica about 2 months ago. I completed two interviews and following the second talked to a friend who told to me that Primerica isn't a good place at all to work at and that it is really a pyramid scam in disguise. I did find it strange that the place was located in a small office inside some random shopping plaza and there wasn't even a "Primerica" sign out front. And they weren't desks or anything either, just a bunch of tables and chairs with one office room (the boss's office) in the back. The people there were also quite sketchy looking. After the second interview I provided my credit card so that Primerica could conduct a 'candidate paid' background investigation. I didn't think anything of this as I understand that most Independent Consultant candidates pay for this required service. I was also told that upon starting at Primerica I would be charged $25 monthly for computer access and that it would automatically bill to my credit card that was used to pay the background investigation charge. After talking to my friend and learning about the experience he had with them, I had no interest in working for them and I immediately withdrew my name for consideration. A few weeks later I noticed the first $25 charge on my credit card statement. The charge was dated two weeks after I declined the job offer at Primerica. I thought maybe it would've only been for that month...but then it happened again last month. I called the "Vice President" of the branch who I interviewed with and told him what was happening and he said that he did not appreciate my lack of professionalism and that I was "stupid" for declining the job offer. He then went on to say that he would terminate the $25 monthly charge only if I provided him with 25 names of friends and family that he could contact regarding Primerica's services. I wasn't sure what to say, so I just hung up on him. I'm not sure what I should do...should I just close my checking account and cut them off from taking the monthly $25 from my account? Please help me!!

Sorry for your bad experience at Primerica. The Regional Vice President should of taken care of the issue without any hassle. While I don't work as an employee at Primerica, I'm a independent business contractor there. So I can't control what goes on at every office in Primerica. I'm only responsible for my own office. Primerica does not know that you are not interested in the business opportunity. The only way they could know is that you send them a letter or call them that you don't want to do this business and you want your refund. There's 2 things you should do: 1) You should send a written request (within 120 days you submitted your Independent Business Application) to: LICENSING - Refunds Primerica 3100 Breckingridge Blvd Building 400 Duluth, GA 30099-0001 Or fax it to: (770) 564-5092 Attention Refund Department Make sure to include your name, phone number, address and a brief message. 2) The $25/month bill you receive is for full access to the company support system called Primerica Online (POL). This service has help me grow my business and provide valuable training tools to help me learn the business and the products. Since you are still being billed for it, the company thinks you are still in the business. You should call this number: (888)737-2255 to cancel your POL service and ask for refund.

Ok, can you say fraud? Just dispute the charges with your card company as unauthorized. The VP is very stupid for doing what he is doing. You said it was on your credit card, and your chequing account???hunh? You really wanna get his goat....email him a list of 25 people out of the phone book.

Immediately contact the bank your checking account is with that you used to pay for this "background Investigation" and tell the you dispute those charges (all of them) Tell them these are UNAUTHORIZED DEBITS - period! They should take them off your bill, and charge back the "Primerica". They got you to give them your account number under felonious circumstances, as a condition for employment. Notify your Attorney General in your city - explain their modus operendi - they should investigate, and shut down criminal activity.

Option 1 (easiest): Call the bank. Tell them that you did not authorize the $25 charge. Dispute it. They will investigate and may eventually reverse the charge (return the $25 already taken, as well as stop future charges). Option 2 (most exciting): Call the police. Ask them to arrest him for extortion and/or fraud. Option 3 (slowest, but most likely to work eventually): Sue him.

What I find most interesting about this is that my mother has been doing the Primerica thing for about a year now (Yes, I told her it was a pyrimid scheme and a total scam and no, she didn't listen) and she talks nonstop about it. There is not, nor has there ever been, a $25 monthly fee for ANY Primerica employee. Ever. Sure there are licensing fees if you pass your tests and things of that nature, but its completely free to be a representative. It sounds to me like that VP is trying to scam money through the company (which is in itself shady, but like attracts like) without the company's knowledge. Oh, and by the way, "VP" for that company means nothing. Find out who your regional manager is for Primerica and call them. Tell them what is going on. Report this guy. Let them know he is hurting the company's "good" name (even if it isn't, LIE. You want your money back) and that you were really excited about the opportunity but now you see that these are not legitimate policies, blah blah. Believe me, that regional manager will jump on this quick--especially if he isn't getting a kickback. Then get a copy of their REAL policies in writing, and then call the police. If you really want to have some fun, show up at the VPs office and tell him who you called, that you have the written policies and that if he doesn't give you your $50 he'll be spending the night in jail, maybe longer just to watch all the color drain out of his face.

I am a home office employee of Primerica and would be happy to assist you in resolving your concerns. "Primerica Debate Team" is correct. If you have not contacted the home office regarding your decision and request for refund, we have no way of knowing about it. I apologize if the RVP did not contact the Home Office on your behalf. Additional contact information for Primerica can be found on the Contact Us page of our public website, which is located at www ... or you may contact me directly.
