Question

replies to a loot advert, help please?

My dad posted an advert on the loot to sell something and in the past few days, he has had an email from someone who says they are interested in buying it. However, after he had sent them both the final asking price and description of the item etc, they replied with details of their 'shipping company' coming to pick it up (obviously not in the uk), paying by cheque but of a large amount such as £3000 and then my dad deducting the price of the item. They say the remaining money will then be sent to the shipper through western union money transfer. Does this sound safe? My dad really wants to sell the item but isn't sure whether this a safe way to do it? No one else has been in touch so far either, help please? Thanks (:

This is a classic scam that has been around for quite some time. The cheque will be a clever forgery, and will bounce. That will leave your dad liable for the bank fees and he is also out the money he wires to the "buyer". This scam is so transparent that most people by now are aware of it, but there are always going to be folks here & there that have not, and get cheated. Research this scam on the internet; it is a very old scam.

Its a scam used to make money - well known by Police forces worldwide - you get a "cleared cheque" for 3,000 when you sell something for 200. You send them a real cheque back for the remainder - and then your 3000 fails to be honured and your real cheque is cleared and the money taken- as well as the item. YOU WILL LOSE MONEY AND ITEM.... Its a scam leave well alone.... you have been warned.
