Question
What is covered and not covered under insurance plans are ridiculous-why is general health not covered?
For example, I am planning to go to a holistic medicine doctor - he has been said to be excellent by reliable sources. Most likely, the medicines he will give me AND plus his fees will not be covered. I have bad eyesight, Crohn's disease, chronically tense neck & shoulders, acne, and candida. Most of the things on my FlexDirect thingy from ADP Flexible Spending Account say if it's used for "general health," then it's not covered. What BS! So they I guess wanna wait until I get some actual diseases before they cover it and YET if you tell the insurance company up front that you have a particular condition, then they might say "pre-existing condition" and might not cover it! Conventional medicine these days is SO driven by pharmaceutical companies' greed, it's unbelievable.

"Holistic services" are simply not covered because insurers know they are a waste of their money. Yes, I know you did not want to hear that, but it is reality. As well, be informed that a visit to a conventional physician does not automatically result in a pharmaceutical prescription. Hence your final claim is rather bogus. I'm not sure what you think a holistic practitioner can do for Crohn's, since that is a malfunction of your immune system, similar to rheumatoid arthritis. Of course, you are entitled to use holistic services, but expect to pay for those services out of your own pocket.

This is a rant, not a question. "Holistic medicine" is an unproven medical area rife with charlatans. That's why insurers won't cover it.

~~Many Americans feel the same way you do. President Obama wants a medical insurance overhaul, as do most of us. Write your story to www.whitehouse.gov just search for health care reform and write to his team.~~

Because anything "general" is always interpreted in favor of the insured. Health insurance already pays out $.99 for every $1 they take in, in premiums. If they would expand what they paid for, in such a generic way, you could reasonably expect your health insurance premiums to triple. Health premiums aren't driven by pharmaceutical greed. They're driven by consumer spending on healthcare services.
