Question
How to go about setting up a market stall?
Me and my friend want to set up a market stall in Sydney (probably Glebe markets) which sells customised clothes and vintage pieces such as second hand sunglasses, customised chandeliers, jewelery, etc, and I was wondering where to start. I know about booking the stalls and the costs etc but I was more curious about the guidelines of things that we can sell; for example, is it illegal to buy something cheap at an op-shop and then re-sell it and make a profit if we didn't customise it? We were planning to buy cheap second-hand things and make them better before selling them on again, but just in case something is amazingly cheap and also really cool (and for some strange reason I didn't want to keep it for myself) so we don't need to customise. Also, are we only allowed to sell one type of product, like clothes or something? Because we had the idea that we could sell CDs of bands that we're friends with as well as all the other things we're selling. And also, is it illegal to use someone else's image on a tee-shirt? Because I really want to make printed tee shirts displaying icons such as Ian Curtis, Edie Sedgwick, etc. because I actually can't find cheap tees like that anywhere that I like but would it be copyright infringement if I was to just use a famous image of them? Oh and also how old do you need to be in order to own a stall? And one last question, how do you get the stonewashed effect of tee-shirts without an industrial washing-machine thing? Sorry for asking so many questions disguised as one question, but if you could provide insight into any of them then I would be deeply grateful!! Thankyou :) of course i wouldn't take all my friend's money for their cd's! i was thinking a small comission... ;)

You can re-sell things you buy. When you buy something you own it. So you have the right to sell it. It's like eBay. You see people selling things on there ALL the time. Or TradeMe in NZ. I'm not sure about the T-Shirt thing. So I'd do some homework and follow that up. You don't want to get in trouble. You can sell CD's of your friends band, but don't take all the pay for them!! Spilt it. No age limits for stalls - I go to a market with my nana and I have my own little stall. You just have to pay for the spot. Good luck :]
