Renewal of Lease for state of NY - automatic or month to month?
n the state of NY if you do not renew your lease at the end is it automatically renewed or does it go month to month.

Depends on the landlord. However, if you are renting with a private landlord, I would renew the lease by resigning paperwork or get updated paperwork from them to know you renewed on a specific date and the terms would end on specific dates. Just best to get EVERYTHING document and a copy for you if you should have trouble w/ deposits, disputes, etc.

In my experience it doesn't renew unless you sign a new lease. I only see this as a possibility if it's written in your original lease that it will auto renew. I never heard of that though. You should talk to your landlord anyway because they may find a new tenant. In that case they only need to give you 30 days to find a new place to live.
