Question
Any suggestions for starting my own (small) food Business?
I love to cook and it would be my dream to create and sell my own cookery book. but in the mean time id love to just maybe sell a few cakes/sweet desserts, but im unsure where and how to do it? I live in a smallish town surrounded y smaller villages, this may be used to my advantage because i could make the elderly my target audience. I just need to no how to go about this and who to contact.

Are you in the UK Try Business gateway which is government supported and free They will give you lots of support and advice as you will need to know about having a sound Business Plan, profit margins, costs, suppliers, marketing, competition etc Because it is food you will also have to do a Food Hygiene course and have your peparation premises registered and inspected I know it sounds like a lot of red tape, but believe me, folk sue very readily these days for trivial things start by contacting Business Gateway for starters

maybe a local shop would like to sell some or maybe advertise cakes made to order .i think on a huger scale the kitchen would have to be passed by health and safety. A friend of mine used to make pavlova bases and sell them at a car boot sale they actually sold well all she did was wrap them in cling film

Go on a business course to learn about the good and the bad about running your own business. Most businesses fail because of no cash flow. Approach local shops and see if they can sell your produce and give a few free samples out to the Elderly and see what they think. All the best. I have a friend who sells her baking to a local store and she is doing very well.
