Can I trademark a company name that is similar to one that is already trademarked?

I want to trademark my company name but there is a similar one that is already trademarked. The name I want to trademark is "Innovative Vision Technologies" – this is currently not trademarked by anyone. However, "Innovative Vision Electronics" is trademarked. The business we are both in are similar, we are both in access control systems. I did notice that there is a completely different company trademarked with the name “IVE Innovative Vision Electronics” – also in the same business. The only difference with that name is that they put IVE in front of their name. I just don’t want to pay the registration fee and then get declined, because they will keep your money if the name registers or does not. Thanks for your help.
