Question
In this day and age, how does anyone start their own business without money?
I'm not talking about the difficulties of working on a new idea and turning that into a profitable business, I'm talking about the initial steps for small timers like the most of us. Seriously, Unless you have an insane amount of money saved up of (difficult with kids, mortgage, etc) you're going to be heavily reliant on outside funding for your ideas. Getting money from VCs is not easy. Not everyone has a generous rich uncle willing to spend money on you. The alternative - starting a business at night - working a day job 8am - 6pm + time for errands, taking care of kids, wife it drains a lot out of you! As a result progress is much slower than you want it to be due to time constraints and overall lack of energy Help me out here! I want to leave the corporate world but I can't find a feasible exit strategy. Family, day work, is all slowly destroying my ideas to go out and make it on my own and start generating my own revenue. I have no doubts in my drive, and my abillity to make a business work. However lack of time and lack of energy are absolutely killing me Help please, advice?

Start slow. With this economy, you should be thankful you have a job/career. Take care of your family but start slow; save up what you can, think of an idea. what do you want to get into? once you figure it out, do as much research as possible. WRITTEN down. The more info you have the more successful you'll be and the more confident you'll be. With a smart business plan you can easily get a loan for a business start up but start slow. Don't borrow 100K if you can't even handle it..

Work in your job until you have money set aside to start the business. Budget. Live like a frugal until you've made it :)

Depends on what your expertise is. It will take about a years salary to keep you floating until you get your product up and running and then there are development cost depending on what you plan to do. I started an Engineering Services company on my own money, so it can be done.

That's like asking how do you drive your car without gas. There are businesses that require no experience and nothing to sell that you can start for well under $500. I started my own business at the age of 17 and became a millionaire by the age of 25 with only $1200 in the early 70's. If I knew then what I know now I would have been retired by the age of 30. I am retires now and only offer free advice from my 35 years of experience, I have nothing to sell. If you would like to know why a 54 year old millionaire is helping people on Yahoo as well as 5 other similar site take a peak at my profile. You need a positive outlook and a passion to succeed no matter what. You are only one choice away from changing your life.
