Question
Jackson Hewitt did not get me the maximum refund I could of received. Can I do anything about it?
Used their service for the first time only because I was in a financial bind and needed money asap. I usually use TurboTax. After I received my refund, just out of curiosity I did my taxes myself through TurboTax and came up with a refund amount that was about $150.00 more that what Jackson Hewitt came up with and all the information was the same, no changes. What should I do now, if anything?

Go back to Hewitt with a copy of the Turbo Tax return and ask them to file for you an amended return. You will get the balance in 4-6 weeks. Might ask them to refund the fee you paid them or at least pay for the Turbo Tax.

take it back and have them ammend it. However, they can't be ammended until they have been processed by the IRS. You may even have to wait until next year, not sure. In the future, stay away from Jackson Hewitt. They have made glaring mistakes all 5 times Ive had mine done there.

Kris, there are a couple of possibilities. First of all, either the accountant missed a potential deduction (which can happen, after all, they are human), or Turbo Tax found a deduction that may not be acceptable, or you may have even a mistake on keying (the same could be said through them). I would go back to Jackson Hewitt, call the manager and explain that you found an option to get $150 more in a refund and see what options they have for you. As long as you call with the idea of them resolving a problem for you, instead of blaming them, they should be willing to look at what occurred. Is it possible that you used a different year or a different type of return? We used Turbo Tax ourselves and found that some of the tax laws have recently changed, allowing us a larger refund. The worst that will happen is that Jackson Hewitt will say their hands are tied or charge you for a second return (find out). Chances are, if the manager is worth his or her salt, they will take a look at the difference in deduction to see if something has changed.

Hello, I'm Ryan. I prepare taxes for Jackson Hewitt. I would say to take your taxes back to the office that prepared them. Find out why they were less. Most franchises will do a free amended return if it was their error. Either way, I'm sorry that you had a problem with your return. I hope everything gets fixed. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me. I'm more than willing to help!
