About 85% of businesses with more than 100 employees have an orientation program for their new employees. Such programs differ in length and in type, but they all have a dual purpose: to make newly hired workers feel it home and to sharpen their job skills to fit their new employers needs. It's extremely important from a Human Resources point of view. During that orientation period you usually would be asked to sign a copy of to employee handbook, the company's internet usage policy, dress code, etc. As far as the company goes, they are then able to say that they have informed you of all these things, so if you do anything wrong, they have documentation that you had been informed of the rules and will have a good reason to fire you.
