Which Home Builder do you suggest in South Texas?

My husband and I are building our first home in a few months, but we want to wait a little bit first and see how the economy goes. We are also trying to see which home building companies are better. We also want to make sure that the company we pick to build our house is going to be around for the long haul. So many are going bankrupt now a days. We fell in love with the floor plans that Meritage Homes has to offer but we know that Perry seems to offer good quality homes. We just can't seem to find any that we like. Everybody has their own good and bad experiences with each company, but does anybody have any insight or recomendations as to what we should do or what they recommend? Has anyone worked with Meritage recenctly and think we should go for it or not in the next year? Or do they recommend a D.R. Horton, or a Perry instead? The one other builder we are looking at is KB Homes. Any advice anyone can offer would be great. Thanks in advance. Just want to know what you think and which may be better. Whether you have worked with them, heard something, or live or have lived in one of these homes.
