Question

Can you explain this apartment thing to me?

So I applied for my first apartment in November. I sighed where ever it said for me to sign my name. The manager called in Nov saying I was approved and to send her a check with the deposit and application fee whenever I had the money. Well it is now Feb and my plans might be changing. I might continue to live on campus at school. So my question is do I need to call the manager? Or should I just forget about it? I mean she has not contacted me since Nov and I have not paid anything. I am also worried about what I signed. Are leases attached to the application? Am I legally bond to this apartment now? I am really worried. Okay yes I was going to call her. I just worded my question wrong. I am going to call.

If you did not pay the deposit and application fee, I would not worry about it. But call her and tell her that your plans did change.

if you haven't sent any money than just call and tell them that you are no longer looking for an apartment

Being that it has been this long, I rather doubt that you signed any lease IMO. A courtesy call to the manager would be in order to state to her that your plans have changed, etc. and you won't be needing the apartment after all. all JMHO.

You didn't include when you were supposed to move in, but no matter. You need to read over the paperwork and see what it is you signed. We cannot tell whether you have a lease and/or any financial obligations or not. And yes, out of courtesy you need to make the call. They are holding that apt. for you I assume. The sooner you tell them you don't want it, the sooner they can find someone who does. If you cause them to lose money by not telling them, you won't have them on your side if you are asking any favors (like letting you off the hook for what you signed if that is the case.) But first, read the paperwork - hopefully you have a copy.

No you are not bound to anything. The application is just that, and the lease is a completely separate document. Since you never called her back or sent any money she probably just figured you changed your mind. Quite honestly, she has probably forgotten all about it by now.
