Would you like to be your own boss?
With the job market being so unstable, I'm looking at some business ventures but I need some opinions. (Interior decorating, a restaurant, bar, snack/sandwich/coffee shop, women's clothing boutique, are among some of my choices.) If you decided to start a business right now, what type of business would you start, and why? In case it matters, I'm in the suburbs, close to a major city.

I think I also answered your question when you reposted, but seeing that you are close to a major city, wanted to add some thoughts. Start with where your passion is, but then think through what your business will offer that a similar business won't? Are you going to be just another sandwich shop, or are you known for your awesome meatball subs or some family recipe? Is your clothing boutique going to feature clothing from local designers or attract a "niche" demographic market? You want to have some "hook" that differentiates your business from others in that category. Think about your ideal "target" client. What type of people do you enjoy working with? Where do they hang out? Where do they work? What are the goods, services, experiences they are willing to pay for? Given that you are in the suburbs of a major city, what services can you offer that will help busy professionals "take back their life"? People are willing to pay fair prices for people to "solve their problems". Note: I am biased because I teach interior redesign/staging business start up.

i would like to give you following suggestions to start your own business: 1. find something which is saleable for time being. 2. ask yourself: am i interested in it? if yes, 3. learn more information about this products: price, advantage of this products, materials knowledge, quality standard, manufacturer, shipper. 4. talk to those pepole who are dealing with this products, ask as much detailed questions as you can. 5. how much tax, accounting ? 6. get loan, look for end customers. 7. you r on the way to b your own boss! 8. be patient whenever there is difficulty! be smile! i am from china with 18 years trading experiences. I would like to share it with you if you need.
