Just a word of warning, now is a horrible time to get into construction. The housing crisis has brought new construction to a halt. Even if you don't want to be involved in new construction, this means all the contractors and sub-contractors who normally work new construction are competing with you for remodel or custom work. I'm not trying to discourage you from pursuing your dream, just don't be too optimistic about short term results until the economy picks up. I would start the same way you start any company: small. Just pick one niche and start doing it. Develop relationships with contractors. I know a guy who just installs cabinets, that's all he does. Pick one aspect of construction and become a sub-contractor doing that line of work. As your company grows, you can gradually expand into other areas and eventually you can be the general contractor who is managing entire projects and sub-contracting individual portions of a job. Good Luck Man.
