loyalty cards
Question
Retail loyalty cards. Does this business idea make sense?
I was out shopping with my girlfriend and was surprised to find she had nearly a dozen loyalty or frequent shopper cards from various retailer's in her purse. She was offered another card from a store she quite liked but declined due to the fact that her purse was already bulging. I thought it would be a good idea to offer a 'super card'. Instead of getting a separate card from each store you would have the option to give them your 'super card' which they could register in their system and which you could then present each time you made a purchase at multiple retail outlets. The retailer would still get the benefit of tracking your purchasing and providing you with frequent shopper benefits and you would benefit from being able to only carry one card and not miss out on points collection. Anyone know if this is already being done? Does it seem like a good idea?

It seems like an ok idea... however one of the big points of a loyalty card is that you see the store name sitting in your wallet, purse, key chain whatever and it might make you think of going to buy something there. If you just saw "mega card" it wouldn't send you on your way to any given store to spend your bucks.
