Question

For members of professional bodies?

Do you find that your professional body really supports your work or is it more that it constantly undermines what you´re trying to do? I'm a herbalist and it feels like my professional body is trying to destroy herbalism as a profession rather than supporting it, and my wife, who is a Yoga teacher, has experienced the same thing with her organisations. OK, i'm a glass half empty person, but i wonder about the ability of a newly-established body to negotiate with the government and gain credibility.

there are many professional body types with a variety of missions. if there is one in your profession that is not doing "it" for you, whatever "it" is, then the obvious and right thing to do is to start a new one that will. this is as easy to start as creation an internet mailing list of interested people and maybe a basic web site so people can learn about the list. not much harder is to move people to a social network - there are many easy to create ones, and from there becoming a proper 501c3 or whatever might follow.
