Question
Question about improving my credit score?
I have 20 total accounts on my credit report of which only 9 of them are now open accounts. I have had 3 derogatory accounts but all of them are now being handled - 1 account just last month was upgraded to good standing. As of February 2008 I have not had 1 late payment. My credit score jumped 100 points this year so I know what I am doing to correct my score is working but I keep getting this message every month when I update my report that explains where I can improve and I am wondering how to make it go away. This is the message... You have not had enough debt experience. [TransUnion, Experian, Equifax] A healthy balance of credit and loan accounts is key to achieving a high credit score. It is important to build a record of responsible credit use over time with different types of accounts. Consider opening a new account to strengthen your credit report. My first major credit card account was opened in 2000 so I have 8 years of credit built up. I opened 2 major credit cards this year (one in March and one in August) which I have been paying more then the minimum every month and I have learned how to keep myself out of trouble. The 2 student loan accounts were opened in 2004. So, how do I make this message go away? I hardly thought that 9 open accounts including 2 major credit cards and 2 student loan accounts wasn't enough...or am I wrong? I don't have a mortgage yet but that is why I am trying to get my score up...I want to be able to buy a house in a couple more years and get the lowest possible rate. Help?

This is probably a default suggestion that will not go away. It may change to something else, but some type of "suggestion" will always pop up. It should not be affecting your score. When I pull credit for others, I see 3 "reasons" why their credit is what it is. Even when scores are 750+ I see these reasons pop up, and they usually seem derogatory, but have no impact on the score or my lending decision. I would not worry too much about it.

Paying for a credit monitoring service is a waste. This little tip pretty much shows how worthless their advice is. Cancel the monitoring service and use that monthly fee to pay off debts. You score improves by building a good payment history. If you pay all your bills on time and check your credit report for accuracy on an annual basis, your score will take care of itself.
