Question
How hard is it to get home builders to give you all the upgrades without raising the price fo the home?
I went to a DR HORTON lot to talk about getting into a home. We had only gone once before and told the sales rep we really liked one of the model homes. We gave them all the info for the pre approval for the home loan. They called us shortly after we left and said we were pre approved. they scheduled us to come in the next day to possibly sign a contract. WE NEVER SAID WE WERE BUYING THE HOME FOR SURE. but for some reason when I wanted to ask alot of questions about the home and try to get upgrades on the home without paying more the lady was getting annoyed. I couldnt believe her attitude. My wife got mad at me cause I told the lady to call us when she could give us more upgrades. And I let her know we are ready to buy when she could offer us more. Was this a good move or bad move?? Im not really sweating it, I am really just curious if she will call back. I think she will but I just dont know what she will offer. The home price has been left alone so I figured in doing that I could get more upgrades instead of trying to drop the home price.

My experience with model homes is, they sell as is. Now sometimes You'll get a discount on the price of the home, because it is a model home and they want to sell it, and usually they sell it last. The furniture in the models homes can sometimes be had if you ask. But as far as upgrades, I haven't heard of that happening, unless you got big money, then you know the old saying "Money talks and BullSh** walks. But, I'll bet others will come behind you and like the home and will take it without asking for upgrades. So you may have lost out.

Did you get the house for the price you wanted to pay? Apparently not so your technique wasn't effective, at least not yet. Sometimes personalities just don't mesh. Other times buyers are unrealistic in their demands. Time will tell. Maybe you'll get a call. More likely, they'll not want to deal with you.

You screwed up, and your approach was entirely incorrect. First, you are NOT entitled to expect all the upgrades with no additional cost. You might have been able to negotiate for SOME upgrades with a bit of tact, which you obviously did not display. Since you have now put the ball in her court, that is most probably where it will stay. Don't hold your breath waiting for that call back.
