What are supplier's responsibility for machine guarding?

Does a maker of manufacturing equipment have a legal responsibility to provide OSHA compliant guarding with the equipment? Could you quote the OSHA regulation if it exists?

The answer is that there is no responsibility to provide it. When purchased, a buyer should make that part of the specifications and most buyers do. Since the supplier can not anticipate all the uses or locations a machine may be used. They may also sell the parts separately. If you have a motor go out, they may give the option of not buying the cage that could be reused from the old one. There are also different country considerations. Italian rules may be different than the USA and so forth. Bottom line, it is the user that is responsible to make sure guarding occurs.
