Question
A question for supervisors, vice presidents, and managers.?
I would prefer only answers from those who hold the above position, as this is a serious question. Thanks. On to my question. I work in a very large environment, a call center actually. I know that people like me to them, (newly employed) are a dime a dozen. I need to know how to stand out, and increase my chances of holding a position greather than the one in which I have now. For example, a supervisor, or someone with authority. Experience, I know is key. But, what are some other ways I can increase my chances of moving up in a large workplace? I have some ideas, but I want to hear yours. Thanks in advance.

be reliable-show up on time every day and call off only if absolutely necessary. without being a suck up, take on additional responsiblity whenever you can-offer to train new employees, test new software, do some documentation-whatever needs done. attitude-have a good one solve and prevent problems-if a problem is recurring, try to offer a preventive solution be diligent about customer service and quality be honest and trustworthy do a great job after about a year (annual review), tell your boss you are interested in a supervisory position should one become available and ask if that might be a possibility and what you should do to increase your chances of getting it. also, keep track of accomplishments, special projects, etc. - you may want to highlight them at review time if needed, or use them on your resume if this company doesn't afford the opportunitie you are looking for you should consider a different company. at that point, your experience will put you in a good position for a supervisory role. be patient-these things don't happen overnight

One big thing - when problems arise, be a problem solver - and let your supervisor know that you are, but without being "in your face" about it.

Execute your basic responsibilities efficiently and effectively, but also go beyond that by offering and implementing ideas to make the work easier to be able to do more with less. Be professional and learn to speak your mind diplomatically and defend your positions with facts and data. Focus on customer satisfaction. Learn to be an informal leader among your peers by earning their respect. Show a passion for learning new things and taking classes. Obtain a BS degree or a Masters if you don't have one.
