If you can play Play4Traffic's game and land on the high scores list they'll put your website up. Also, make a myspace for your site. It sounds weird to make a myspace for a site, but it'a lot easier to advertise through myspace than it is with just a regular site.

jwserra offers some good advice. You should also make sure that your site is fully-optimized for the search engines. Pay close attention to having the right meta tags, most relevant key words, and so on. Then email everyone you know and have them google search and visit it. Have them email everyone they know, and so on. In other words, try to generate as much organic good-will traffic as possible to improve the search rankings.
