Question

Independent Contractor-Will Job Show Up On Background Check?

I've been working for a company as an independent contractor for a few months. It's not working out and I'm looking for a job. Will my current job show up on my background check if a potential employer runs one on me? Thank you.

There is not a database available to the public to determine where someone has previously been employed. When a company conducts a background check, they need for you to provide your previous places of employment along with the dates and position. The screening company will contact that employer using the information that you provided. If you have been at your current position for some time, you might have to explain the gap in your history.

I doubt it. Most "employer" won't detailed check that way. But there are so many ways you can "hide" the fact that you are working for some company now, by just writing your resume' in such way. Please be actively search for a new employer/new project. Don't wait.

Background check is for criminal activity, court cases, bad credit, your standing with any Registrars Office, and the references you provide. So no employment shows up on a background check. But you are correct to wonder because your new employer wants to know what you are doing today and won't be happy if you say "I've been sitting home" when you weren't and she finds out later. The new employer will be happy she found you. Lots of jobs don't work out. Then you get another job.
