Question

does anybody know?

im pregnant and not able to work, my partner works and can support us both. I got told that i could claim top up job seekers, which was to help up us out because of the credit crunch. i was told that i would be enititled to a maternity grant 11 weeks before i was due so that we could buy baby stuff. i have recieved a letter saying i have not payed enough national insurance so im not enititled to job seekers off them, will this mean that i will not get the maternity grant aswel? i will be going in to see the job centre tomorrow to ask, but just wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else. so if my partner got working tax credits will that mean we can get can still get the grant. ( i would like to say the jobcentre are really awful at there job and dont care about anyone else apart from there selves, i no plenty of people who have been messed around with them, its ok for them as they have nice little jobs and never seem to work when im in there lol) sorry my rant is over

Hi, to get JSA you have to have paid enough National Insurance stamps in the previous two tax years, if you haven't you don't get. You also wouldn't get as you have to be capable of work and if you are saying you are uncapale due to pregancy then you can't claim JSA. Usually you would claim Incapacity benefit if you are unfit for work. Again you can not be paid this as you will not have paid enough National Insurance, however, you should still make a claim; although you will not be paid Incapcity Benefit you will get your National insurance paid for you, which is important for you state pension and other benefits. Your partner maybe able to claim Working tax Credits, this will depend on your circumstances (eg if you have any other children) anf your house hold eraanings. you can work out how much you would get depending on your own circumstances here: www ... Use the link above to see if you qualify for Tax Credits just now, then adpat it to see if you qualify once the baby is born. Maternity Allowance: To qualify you must have worked for at least 26 weeks within the last 66 weeks before the baby is due and earned at least 30 pound per week. Maternity allowance is paid from 11 weeks before the expected date of delivery and paid for 39 weeks at a rate of 117.18 otr 90% of your gross weekly wage (which ever is less) Sure Start Maternity: You get this if you have had a baby within the last 3 months and you get Child tax Credits at a rate above basic element (use above link to see if you qualify). You need to claim within 3 months. You get 500 pounds Just Now: 1 Check Working tax credits/Child Tax Credits at link above 2 Maternity allowance if you meet the criteria at 11 weeks befor baby due 3 Claim Incapacity Benefit for your National Insurance stamp After baby born: 1. Claim Child Benefit 2. Check Tax Credits award at link above 3. If Tax Credits above basic element claim Sure Start Grant within 3 months
