Does the Fair Credit act apply to landlord tenant relationships?

The reason I am asking is because the Landlord of a former commercial building that I leased is telling other merchants on the street that I terminated my lease early and still owe him money. I disagree with him about this matter as he agreed to keep my deposit as payment for the final month of the lease when I discussed moving to another location. I did not get my deposit back of course. Also he has sent a letter to my father asking that he pay the rent that he feels I owe. I am 40 years old, and do not think it was appropriate for him to discuss my business dealings with my father or anyone else in the community. Can a landlord share this information with the general public, or is this a matter that should be confidential? I know this is unethical, but is it legal?. I guess what I am asking is if a rental agreement is confidential, and if money he thinks is owed to him public information. Not only do I feel that it is wrong for him to ask my elderly father to pay my debts, but he is also telling my customers about this matter between the two of us.
