Question
What identification do i need besides my photo ID, to cash in a check that is about 4 thousand dollars?
Last weekend when i went to cash in a check to the bank which is Suntrust, that is over 4 thousand dollars that my Craiglist buyer had sent to me, the bank said that I needed another identification like a credit card or passport besides my photo ID which is my state ID, which i don't have. And they said that they do not accept social security cards even though I said to them that i have social security and they also do not accept birth certificates too. Are there any types of identification that i can use to cash in this check at Suntrust? And to achieve getting the check cashed is it best for me to open up an account with Suntrust, since i have saved some money and have not opened up an account yet?

I would recommend opening an account somewhere. That way you will have a debit card with your name on it that you can use as your second piece of identification, and also cashing checks in the future will be easier for you. They should take your social security card as a second ID, and it is silly if they do not.

Do you have a friend with a checking act . If so he can deposit in to his or her act and when it clears. Have him or her give you the money. Or go to a check cashing place and see if they can cash it good luck Renard

Hope you haven't shipped whatever you sold for $4000... Any bank you take the check to, including your own, is going to come after you if that bounces... You did OF COURSE protect yourself against that I'm sure...
