Question
Getting into Venture Capital/Hedge Funds?
Hey, I'm currently a sophomore in college. I'm very interested in getting into venture capital or working my way to hedge fund manager, but I'm very unsure of what I need to be doing in order to achieve my goals. For example, what kind of undergraduate work do I need do, and where can I look for internship/shadowing summer jobs for big companies--so I can gain experience and make business connections. I'd appreciate any advice to put me in the right direction.

I assume you don't know of anyone - perhaps some of your fellow students have parents already in this field ? - if so, get them to assist .. Otherwise, at a guess, you need to contact one of the big players in the VC / Hedge Fund game .. Needles to say, at this exact moment in the economic cycle, a lot of finance companies are reducing staff in theses area's ... PS To give you an edge, consider a joint Maths and Finance Degree (a MSc. or PhD is even better) .. but perhaps equally (or even more) important is bucket loads of enthusiasm, determination and an over-riding ability to 'sell' yourself ... in the VC / Hedge Fund game it seems no ego can be big enough ..

I would earn a degree in economics, then get an MBA and earn your CHA, CFA or CAIA designation. Hope that helps. Here is a hedge fund employment guide from my blog: richard-wilson ... - Richard Richard Wilson
