Question
How do I promote a complex product?
I'm a designer with 22 years of field experience and I am looking for advice. I created 2 products requiring an education before I can expect someone to make a purchase. The first product is a 100% original design. CMS website... it is different from CMS sites such as Joomla because the templates are created from scratch and therefore can be incredibly creative. With the right hosting these sites include everything from a photo gallery to a blog to e-commerce all at one flat rate. The second product combines a talent agency with web development services, allowing a website owner to give us a script and choose a model. We then have that model "walk on" to the site and be a spokesmodel for the company. It's very exciting because not only are the prices pretty cheap but these videos load pretty quickly too. How do I teach people about these great services? I do NOT want to sell my work here, I am not soliciting. I only want to know HOW to sell this service with no salesmen. I have not put the URL's for these products because the last time I asked a similar question I was deleted and I wanted to get some answers before posting this: You can check out the two products here: www ... and www ... ... as you can see, I've already taken some of this advice.

Both are interesting concepts. - and that's partly your problem. Whenever a company is the first to invent a category or a new product, it's up to them to educate the masses as to how it works. (It's like Blue-Ray being the next step in high def DVD.) Most of us are familiar with websites that direct the user to a self-starting video or audio presentation. Perhaps you could start there: how do these websites market their services? Your second product seems to be a natural evolution of that idea. And perhaps that can be your hook? Also, with regard to the second idea, I think you need to coin a phrase for this type of service. It sounds like a nice idea, so you don't want someone else coming along and creating the brand name or category name for your brain child. At some point, you will probably have to market your idea(s) under the general category of website design. That's why you need to come up with a short, descriptive name for each product. If you can develop an intriguing name that either explains how your product works or invites them to learn more about it, that will be key. You will then want to test different words and word combinations to see how they score on a search engine. You have not asked a simple question, and your question demands more than what I can explain here. I trust I have given you a place to start thinking. Feel free to contact me if you wish to discuss this further.
