Question

How long of a notice if any should an employee leave an employer for decreasing their available work days?

An employee works Mon-Thurs and Sat. The bussiness has 3 employees and a working owner. She (an employee) wanted to stop working saturdays. I suggested giving the owner a 2 week notice. She did. The owner tries to make it so 3 people work every day Mon-Sat. She worked 2 saturdays. The manager covered the third saturday for her and had no problem doing it. But he does not want to add another day to his schedule. So, now it has been 4 weeks and the owner wants the employee to continue working Saturdays until he finds a replacement. He did place an ad with a job service 2 weeks ago. He has not done any paid advertising, and the postion offers a little over minimum wage. No applications have been filled out. Its pretty much a sure thing she wouldn't get laid off for her decreased availability. Its kind of a mom and pop bussiness. I was wondering what the standards are in the work world for this sort of a situation. And what you think she should do.

Two weeks should be enough. But, the employer sets the rules (because they're the one with the money). If the employer insists that the employee work, the only options for the employee are; (1) work the hours demanded, (2) quit altogether.
