Where can I find out legal information about naming a business?

I am in the process of getting a small business up and running and although I'm going to be turning it into a LLC eventually, I'm starting off as a sole proprietorship now because funds are low. I would like to know where I can find legal information about naming a business...I think that every state is different, I'm from Illinois. I know that you can't have the same name in the same state as another company if they are in the same industry, but what about other states? What about other industries? What about just a part of the name and not the whole thing? I think I'm asking too many questions... Please help point me in the right direction to find accurate information on this topic.
