REGISTER with social services. This will give you more creditbility. its not too hard, you'll have to have criminal background checks from your police station and fingerprints of everyone in your home. And fill out some papers. Also, be sure that you dont take on too much at once. Just try 2 kids to start with. I did this and found its very hard to live a normal life this way. Also find a backup person. Its a MUST. After you do these things, word of mouth will get you more kids, but you may have more than you can handle. Good luck.

At home ay care rules vary depending on where you live. Some state that you need to do a course and have first aid training to open an "official" business. However, if you are doing it just to earn a extra few bucks, why don't you babysit relatives and friends kids? Word of mouth will get around once you start. Even advertise in the local paper.

Make sure you know the rules in your state and district. In many areas, you may have up to 5 children without needing liscensing. It is important to keep certain records re. the children ( for example: immunization records, medications the child may be taking, any medical problems or disabilities, emergency procedures and contacts, etc., etc.). Do contact your Department of Public Health, Department of Social Services etc. for general information. Being certified by the state is really great in that your home can qualify for even more than 5 children and you may be liscensed for the same. Your money is guaranteed with taking care of a child whose daycare is paid for by the state...A great idea... The best to you...

Get licensed through your state and from there you can be put on the YWCA licensed daycare provider list (whom most people who want quality childcare for their children call for references). With licensing you will have to take classes for licensing and in the process you will meet other providers who will give you tips about interviews with parents, issues that may come up in your daycare, the going rate for daycare in your area, how payment is setup, how much to charge (if at all) for parents being late picking up their child (in my area, some drop the children off at the fire station if the parents are late and if the same child gets left at the station more than two times DCFS gets involved), etc. Good luck!
