Question
I'm moving from CA to Colorado and need info on health insurance with maternity?
In my research it seems all personal / private pay insurance doesn't include maternity in Colorado? why is that? Can you get maternity? What companies offer health insurance in Colorado. We're looking at moving to Loveland, CO (northern CO) Any info is greatly appreciated. Where can i find a local broker or agent to help me look for health insurance?

It's because the only people that want to buy it, are planning on using it - there isn't any sharing of the cost. Kinda like, IVF coverage - are you going to buy it? Why not? The ONLY place to get maternity coverage is through a group policy with your employer - because then there's true sharing of cost - the men buy it, the women buy it, the post menopausal women buy it, and the child haters buy it, along with the people who are actually planning on using it. If you don't get your health insurance through your job there, you should get it through a local agent - local, so they know who has the best deals and the most providers in your area - and agent, so you have someone to ask your questions of, and go to when you have problems.

It will most likely be less expensive for you to purchase an HSA, (Health Savings Account,) qualified plan from Anthem Blue Cross in Colorado, depositing the $5800 maximum allowed in the account as a family. Use the $5800 to pay for the birth with tax-free funds. Complications of pregnancy are covered as a medical condition. Even if a policy is available to cover maternity, it is likely that the premium will be nearly $6000 more than a plan without, such as an HSA. One way or another you will pay, so having the tax advantages of an HSA is to your advantage. Negotiate the bill with your doctor. Most maternity claims are billed, "globally," that is, in one lump sum, ranging between $5000-$9000. Check out birthing centers, midwives, etc., possibly saving several thousand.

You can try talking to All Lines Insurance Brokers in Fort Collins, CO. Thats the next town over and has a lot more than Loveland. I recently moved from Ft Collins and miss it everyday! All Lines Insurance Brokers (970) 224-3301 1719 E Mulberry St # 1 Fort Collins, CO 80524 Everyone has their own thoughts on the issue, but I like brokers rather then individual agents. Brokers have a wider variety of companies and can fit the policy to you, instead of trying to fit you into a policy from the company that they work for. You can mapquest the address but they are very easy to visit also. Take college straight through Loveland to Ft Collins, all the way to Mulberry and turn Right (east) or the freeway. Get on 25 north and exit at Mulberry Rd, go west off the exit and you're right there! There is another company in Denver, a bit farther to visit, but just a phone call away: Colorado Health Insurance Brokers: 11852 E. Maplewood Avenue Greenwood Village, CO 80111 Metro Denver (303) 456-7967 Toll free within Colorado (800) 416-4481 Good Luck!
