Question
How does Section 8 work in Ohio, again?
I took in a friend who was in need of a place to stay, after an emergency. She is a single mother with a 2 year old daughter. She said she's "been approved and is 'Number 10' on the waiting list." The way she explains it she is assigned a home, something akin to being assigned a room in a college dorm. Is that right?

I don't about Ohio but you can contact your local HUD office and they can give you accurate information.

I'm in Ohio & know several people on section 8. We live in a small town & the waiting list is in the hundreds & the wait is months. I bet the bigger cities are worse. If you live in a really small town then its possible that her number could come up quickly. If she is signing up for section 8 housing, it could be in the projects. Or she could find a rental house & they pay the rent. Quite a process though.
