Question

Affirmative Action?

Help with a paper that is recommending a company's board of directors that affirmative action policies be implemented. Include points supporting the recommendation and clearly address points that may be used against this recommendation. The paper should also address how affirmative action policy will relate to compliance with equal employment opportunity law. Thanks

I think its wrong its like an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind. Besides its not really the most horrible punishment I mean there are worse things than death. It kind of depends on your beliefs on an afterlife.

Since I HATE affirmative action, I'll give you some opposing points: 1. Affirmative action is little more than a quota system. Why not just set some arbitrary figures; e.g., We want 50 percent of our workforce to be made up of women and minorities? 2. Diversity is touted as this WONDERFUL thing. People of different backgrounds working together, bringing their unique points of view to the table. But virtually EVERY harrassment lawsuit comes from DIFFERENCES between people. Yes, you MAY get differing points of view, but when those differences include a black man saying all whites are racist, a man saying all women should be barefoot and pregnant, and a gay saying every straight is a homophobe then have we REALLY done good for our company? 3. Diversity increases racial lawsuits, sexual harrassment suits, and our costs for "tolerance" and "sensitivity" training 4. Why not simply focus on hiring the BEST candidates and SEE what racial and sexual makeup we end up with? 5. Are we REALLY going to lower our hiring standards for one ethnic group and not for all? Isn't that offensive?

This policy is a double edged knife and you have to be really careful implementing it. In communities like an ethnic indian scenario you can see four tier levels/hierachy which are so rigid that they have survived almost a 1000 years of recorded history. The result is that we have sections who are oppressed their mistake being they are at the bottom of the hierachy. just imagine being denied basic human rights just becuse of your caste/surname. In such a scenario asking for opportunities to cut across this ice is justified........ affirmative action has to explain the reason of its implementation and historically the more "previliged societies" have been against it citing merit as a criteria............. try contacting me at mailcooltarang@yahoo.com i have a lot to tell............
